Key takeaways

Summary
  • ArmorThane has released a new 1:1 low-pressure spray system for RV roofs and spray-on bedliners, with complete setups starting around $20,000.
  • It is built on the ArmorLine LP Series 4111, which offers adjustable flow up to 0.75 gal/min, or up to 1.25 gal/min with optional high-volume pumps.
  • The E-Z Gun static-mixes material and controls flow at the gun, and line sets can run up to 150 ft.
  • ETS-110, a 1:1 low-pressure modified polyurea, is the matching material; plan an aliphatic topcoat where color stability matters.
  • Low pressure skips the heated high-pressure proportioner, which is why startup cost is so much lower.

Big-rig polyurea is not the only way into the coatings business anymore. ArmorThane has released a new 1:1 low-pressure spray system that lets applicators spray RV roofs and spray-on bedliners, with complete setups starting as low as about $20,000. It is built on the ArmorLine LP platform and the E-Z Gun, and it is aimed squarely at shops that want to start earning with a smaller, simpler investment.

What ArmorThane released

The system is based on the ArmorLine LP Series 4111, the 1:1 member of ArmorThane's ArmorLine LP low-pressure proportioner family. Its sibling, the Series 4121, runs 2:1 materials. According to ArmorThane, the ArmorLine LP platform offers:

  • An adjustable standard material flow rate of up to 0.75 gal/min
  • An optional high-volume pump package that raises output to as much as 1.25 gal/min
  • Line sets up to 150 ft long, so the machine can stay parked while you work
  • Spraying straight from 5-gallon or 55-gallon containers
  • Quick color changes with minimal material handling, plus easy clean-up and low maintenance
  • Remote control of the machine from the E-Z Gun

Who the 1:1 low-pressure system is for

This setup fits applicators who want to add coatings revenue without the cost and complexity of a full high-pressure rig:

  • RV and trailer shops that want to offer seamless roof coatings in-house instead of sending work out
  • Auto accessory and bedliner shops adding spray-on liners to their menu
  • New applicators who want a lower-cost first system while they build a customer base
  • Established high-pressure crews who want a second, lighter unit for patch jobs, small parts and touch-ups

ArmorThane also lists showroom and warehouse floors, OEM manufacturing and smaller construction projects among the jobs its LP equipment suits.

What it can spray

A 1:1 machine needs a 1:1 material. ETS-110 is ArmorThane's low-pressure modified polyurea, mixed 1:1 by volume and 100% solids. ArmorThane lists it for truck bed surfaces, horse trailers, cargo holds and cargo liners, utility vehicles, boat linings, walkways, waterproof decking, mold castings and encapsulation of fiberglass bodies. It bonds to metal, concrete, fiberglass and wood, and it ships in 10-gallon (2 pail) and 100-gallon (2 drum) kits.

ETS-110 is aromatic, so it will yellow or darken with UV exposure. ArmorThane notes it can be topcoated within 12 hours with an aliphatic polyurethane or polyurea for a colorfast finish, which is worth planning for on RV roofs and any liner that lives in the sun.

Our STS-200 and STS-300 polyurethanes are 2:1 materials, so they belong on the Series 4121, not the 1:1 unit. Not sure which chemistry fits your job? Our tech team will match the material to the substrate and the finish you need.

Why low pressure lowers startup cost

High-pressure polyurea relies on a heated proportioner, heated hose and an impingement-mix gun, usually mounted in a trailer with a generator, compressor and air dryer. That is the right tool for big, fast production work, and it is also a large investment. ArmorThane's low-pressure approach removes the need for expensive heated high-pressure proportioning equipment:

  • Static mixing at the gun. The E-Z Gun mixes material in a static mixer and controls product and flow at the gun, rather than relying on high-pressure impingement.
  • Smaller footprint. A cart-mounted machine that draws from pails or drums fits in a shop bay or a trailer.
  • Simpler learning curve. Fewer systems to manage means new crew members get productive sooner.
  • Flexible finish. ArmorThane says the product can go on smooth or textured.

The trade-off is output. At up to 0.75 gal/min standard, or 1.25 gal/min with the high-volume pumps, an LP unit is built for bedliners, roofs, trailers and parts, not for acres of secondary containment. If your work is mostly large industrial square footage, a high-pressure mobile rig is still the better fit.

What comes in a setup

Packages can vary, so ask for the exact contents with your quote. The building blocks of an ArmorLine LP setup, all of which we stock as parts, are:

  1. The ArmorLine LP machine with matched ISO (A) and resin (B) pumps, motor control and a remote control
  2. The E-Z Gun static-mix spray gun, in standard or Mini configuration
  3. A line set of paired ISO and resin hoses, from 30 ft up to 100 ft, plus remote cable
  4. A pump cart and material tray to keep containers and tools organized
  5. Clean, dry air through an air dryer assembly
  6. Material such as ETS-110 in 10-gallon or 100-gallon kits

Pro tip: Order a spare E-Z Gun sleeve kit and a few common E-Z Gun wear parts with your first package. Small parts like these can stop a job if you do not have them on the truck.

Safety: Low pressure does not mean low hazard. ISO-based coatings still require proper respiratory protection, skin and eye protection and ventilation. See our safety supplies.

How to get started

Browse the LP equipment and parts in our spray equipment collection, then contact the ArmorThane team or call the tech line at (417) 831-5090 for a setup quote. Tell us what you plan to spray, how many jobs a week you expect and where the unit will live, and we will put together a package that starts spraying the day it arrives.

Frequently asked questions

How much does the ArmorThane 1:1 low-pressure system cost?

Complete setups start as low as about $20,000. The final price depends on the package, line set length, pump options and material you choose, so contact the team for a quote.

What is the difference between the ArmorLine LP 4111 and 4121?

The 4111 proportions 1:1 materials such as ETS-110. The 4121 proportions 2:1 materials such as STS-200 and STS-300. Both offer adjustable flow up to 0.75 gal/min, or up to 1.25 gal/min with optional high-volume pumps.

Can I spray STS-200 through the 1:1 system?

No. STS-200 and STS-300 are 2:1 polyurethanes and belong on the 2:1 Series 4121. The 1:1 system is matched to 1:1 materials like ETS-110.

Will ETS-110 stay white on an RV roof?

ETS-110 is aromatic, so it can yellow or darken in UV. ArmorThane says it can be topcoated within 12 hours with an aliphatic polyurethane or polyurea for a colorfast finish.

Is low pressure a replacement for a high-pressure rig?

Not for high-volume industrial work. LP is built for bedliners, roofs, trailers, parts and patch jobs where lower startup cost and simplicity matter more than maximum output.
