ArmorLiner Review: ArmorThane's All-Purpose 1:1 Polyurea Spray Liner - ArmorThane Shop

Key takeaways

Summary
  • ArmorLiner is a two-component, 1:1, 100% solids, fast-set polyurea liner and the centerpiece of ArmorThane's high-pressure ArmorLine series.
  • ArmorThane lists it as compatible with metal, concrete, fiberglass and wood, with low-temperature flexibility for hot and cold service.
  • It shines on spray-on bedliners, trailers, boat linings, decking, industrial floors and containment areas.
  • It is a high-pressure material, and where exterior color matters it should be finished with a UV topcoat such as UV ColorCoat.
  • Physical property numbers are not published on the product page, so request the current TDS from the tech line before writing a spec.

Ask a room of ArmorThane applicators which material they would keep if they could only have one, and a lot of hands go up for ArmorLiner. ArmorThane calls it generally its most successful product and the best collection of good physical properties for most types of applications. That is a big claim, so the ArmorThane Tech Team took a hard look at what ArmorLiner is, what we can verify on paper, and where it earns its reputation.

What ArmorLiner is

ArmorLiner is a two-component, 1:1, 100% solids, fast-set, liquid-applied polyurea liner system. It is the centerpiece of ArmorThane's high-pressure ArmorLine series, which means it is built to be sprayed through a heated plural-component proportioner and an impingement mix gun, not rolled or brushed.

Three things define it:

  • Substrate range. ArmorThane lists it as compatible with nearly any substrate, including metals, concrete, fiberglass and wood.
  • Low-temperature flexibility. ArmorThane describes it as equally suited to the cold as to the hot, which matters on trucks and trailers that see every season.
  • A simple 1:1 ratio. Equal volumes of Side A and Side B keep proportioning straightforward on standard polyurea equipment.

ArmorThane's polyurea overview groups ArmorLiner with its hybrid polyureas, as opposed to pure polyureas like HighLine 510. Hybrids blend in other chemistry to tune properties, which is part of why ArmorLiner works across so many job types.

ArmorLiner specs we could verify

These values come from ArmorThane's own product pages. ArmorThane does not publish tensile, elongation or hardness figures on the ArmorLiner product page, so we are not listing them here. Ask for the current TDS before you write a spec.

Property ArmorLiner
Chemistry Two-component polyurea liner system (hybrid)
Mix ratio 1:1 by volume
Solids 100%
Set Fast set, quick polyurea cure
Application High-pressure plural-component spray
Substrates Metal, concrete, fiberglass, wood
Pigment loading 100 g ArmorThane pigment per US gallon of Side B
Packaging 100-gallon kit: 50 gal Side A (ISO) and 50 gal Side B (polyol resin)

Pro tip: Weigh your pigment. At 100 grams per gallon of Side B, a digital gram scale and a consistent mixing routine keep color matching tight from one bedliner to the next.

Where ArmorLiner shines

Spray-on bedliners and vehicles

Truck beds are ArmorLiner's home turf. ArmorThane describes the cured liner as unyielding to gouging, rips, tears and scuffs, which is exactly what a bed full of tools, gravel and pallets demands. The same logic carries to cargo liners, utility vehicles, horse trailers and cargo holds.

Marine and decking

ArmorThane lists boat linings and waterproof decking among ArmorLiner's typical uses. Seamless, monolithic coverage with no laps to fail is the reason polyurea wins here.

Industrial and commercial

On the industrial side, ArmorLiner is used on industrial flooring, walkways, vapor barriers and containment areas. It also shows up in fiberglass and polystyrene foam encapsulation, where a tough shell over a lighter core is the goal.

Honest trade-offs

No coating is the answer to everything. Here is where we would steer you elsewhere or add a step:

  • Exterior color. ArmorLiner is not sold as a color-stable aliphatic product. If a customer cares how the color looks after years in the sun, plan on a UV topcoat. ArmorThane's UV ColorCoat is an aliphatic polyurethane topcoat designed as a finish coat over its truck bedliner systems, with custom color matching.
  • Heavy abrasion and impact. For mining chutes, structural steel and similar punishment, the harder HighLine 510H is purpose-built.
  • Cold-weather containment. If you are lining containment or geotextile in the cold, look at HighLine 610, which ArmorThane positions for cold-break resistance and a lower application temperature threshold.
  • Potable water. For drinking water contact, use a product certified for it, such as AquaSafe, which ArmorThane lists as ANSI/NSF 61 compliant.
  • Equipment. ArmorLiner needs a high-pressure proportioner, heated hose and impingement gun. If you are running low-pressure equipment, talk to us about an LP material instead.

Who ArmorLiner is for

ArmorLiner is the right first drum for most bedliner shops and for general contractors who want one polyurea that covers trucks on Monday, a trailer floor on Wednesday and a small containment pad on Friday. If your work is mostly one specialty, a specialty product may edge it out, but for a mixed book of business it is hard to beat.

Safety: ArmorLiner contains an isocyanate curative. Read the SDS before handling, and spray only with proper respiratory protection, skin and eye protection, and ventilation. Our safety supplies collection has respiratory protection and personal gear for polyurea work.

Getting set up

You will find ArmorLiner and the pigments, primers and topcoats that go with it in our coatings and chemicals collection. Proportioners, heated hoses and guns live in spray equipment, and if you want a turnkey truck, see our mobile spray rigs.

Frequently asked questions

What mix ratio is ArmorLiner?

ArmorLiner is a two-component polyurea mixed 1:1 by volume and sprayed with high-pressure plural-component equipment.

What surfaces can ArmorLiner be sprayed on?

ArmorThane lists metal, concrete, fiberglass and wood. As with any polyurea, adhesion depends on surface preparation, so clean, profile and prime as the substrate requires.

Can I tint ArmorLiner?

Yes. ArmorThane recommends adding 100 grams of ArmorThane pigment to every US gallon of Side B polyol resin.

Does ArmorLiner need a topcoat outdoors?

ArmorLiner is not sold as a color-stable aliphatic product, so for exterior color retention ArmorThane offers UV ColorCoat, a topcoat designed to finish its truck bedliner systems.

Where can I get the ArmorLiner TDS?

Call the ArmorThane tech line at (417) 831-5090 or use the contact page, and ask for the current technical data sheet and SDS before you spray.
