Key takeaways

Summary
  • The Reactor 3 E-30 keeps the Reactor 2 E-30's core ratings: 2,000 psi and 30 lb/min, with 10 kW or 15 kW of primary heat.
  • The upgrades are in control and upkeep: a touchscreen display, an active ISO lube system, a brushless motor and independent A and B hose heat.
  • Pro and Elite tiers add connectivity, and Elite adds Katalyst system control when paired with Graco Core transfer pumps.
  • It is a spray foam machine first. Polyurea applicators should look at the E-XP models, which Graco rates at 3,500 psi.

The Reactor E-30 has been the default electric foam machine in a lot of rigs for years. With Reactor 3, Graco kept the E-30's familiar pressure and output ratings and rebuilt almost everything around them. This is our ArmorThane Tech Team take on what changed, what did not, and who should spend the money.

What changed from Reactor 2

Graco launched Reactor 3 in March 2022 as a connected system "from drum to gun." For the E-30, the changes that matter day to day are:

  • Touchscreen Advanced Display Module (ADM). One large screen runs setup, temperatures, pressures and diagnostics.
  • Active ISO lube system. A peristaltic pump with automatic timed circulation keeps the ISO pump throat seal wetted, which Graco says improves throat seal life.
  • Brushless motor. Graco credits it with improved pressure and flow performance.
  • Independent hose heat for A and B. You can run the two sides at different temperatures to help balance pressures.
  • Auto Pressure Balance and Power Management. The unit adjusts temperatures to keep pressures balanced, and you can select how much heater wattage it pulls.
  • Cellular software updates. Pro and Elite units carry the Reactor Connect cellular module for remote monitoring and automatic updates.
  • Smaller footprint. Graco markets a reduced footprint, which matters when you are fitting a trailer or box truck.

What did not change: maximum pressure, maximum flow and the heater choices. If your current Reactor 2 E-30 keeps up with your jobs, Reactor 3 will not spray faster. It is about control, uptime and data.

Standard, Pro and Elite: which tier?

Reactor 3 is sold in three tiers, and the tier matters more than the heater size for most buyers.

  • Standard: the touchscreen, active ISO lube, brushless motor and data download. A solid replacement for an aging Reactor 2.
  • Pro: adds larger inlet filters, recirculation valves and the Reactor Connect cellular module, so you can see temperatures, pressures and drum levels in the Reactor Connect app.
  • Elite: adds Katalyst full system control, ratio assurance and inlet sensors, and is optimized for Graco Core transfer pumps. Graco says Katalyst can shut the system down when a drum runs out and adjust pump power for steady material feed.

Pro tip: Katalyst and Smart Supply only deliver their full value with Graco Core transfer pumps. If you plan to keep your existing pneumatic feed pumps, price the Pro tier first and decide whether Elite features justify also changing your supply pumps.

Who the E-30 is for

Graco positions the Reactor 3 E-30 as the workhorse for typical residential and commercial spray foam contractors. It fits well if you:

  • Spray open cell and closed cell foam as your main business.
  • Run one or two rigs and want remote visibility without a hydraulic machine's power demands.
  • Are replacing a worn Reactor or first-generation unit and want better diagnostics.

If your work is mostly polyurea, bedliners, or industrial coatings, the E-30 is the wrong tool. Its 2,000 psi ceiling leaves little headroom for many polyurea systems. Graco lists the Reactor 3 E-XP2 at 3,500 psi and 2 gpm, and that family is where coating applicators should start. Check your coating's technical data sheet for the pressure and temperature it needs before you choose.

Trade-offs to weigh

  • Same output as before. If you are output limited, a hydraulic Reactor 3 such as the H-30 or H-50 is the step up, not the E-30.
  • Electrical demand. The 15 kW unit draws 97 A single phase per Graco. Size your generator and wiring for the unit you actually buy.
  • More electronics. Connectivity and sensors are powerful, but they add parts and software to learn. Train the crew on the ADM before the first big job.
  • Tier creep. The best features live in Elite with Core pumps, which raises the total system cost.

Parts, troubleshooting and support

We carry Reactor 3 and Reactor 2 proportioners, heated hose, whip hoses and sensor kits in Spray Equipment, and rebuild parts in Parts & Rebuild Kits. When the machine throws an alarm or pressures drift, start with our equipment Troubleshooter: pick your machine, choose the problem or error code, and it walks you through checks to the likely cause and part numbers. For gun side issues, the Gun Parts Finder has exploded diagrams for Fusion guns and the Probler P2.

Safety: Always follow Graco's pressure relief procedure before servicing, and wear supplied air or the respirator your chemical's SDS requires. Isocyanates are a serious respiratory sensitizer.

Our take

The Reactor 3 E-30 is the best version of the E-30 Graco has built, but it is an evolution, not a revolution. Buy it for the touchscreen, the active ISO lube, balanced hose heat and remote data. Do not buy it expecting more output. Foam contractors replacing an older machine will get real uptime benefits. Coating and polyurea applicators should look at the E-XP line instead. Approved applicators can sign in through our Applicator Program to see account pricing, or contact our tech team to talk through tiers and packages.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Reactor 3 E-30 faster than the Reactor 2 E-30?

Not on paper. Graco rates both at 2,000 psi and 30 lb/min. The Reactor 3 improvements are in controls, heat management, lubrication and connectivity rather than raw output.

Can I spray polyurea with a Reactor 3 E-30?

The E-30 is built and marketed for spray foam with a 2,000 psi rating. For polyurea, most applicators choose an E-XP model; Graco lists the Reactor 3 E-XP2 at 3,500 psi and 2 gpm.

What does the Elite tier add?

Graco says Elite adds Katalyst full system control, ratio assurance and inlet sensors, and is optimized for Core transfer pumps. Smart Supply inlet pressure control needs a Pro or Elite unit with Core pumps.

What heater size should I pick?

Graco offers the E-30 with 10 kW or 15 kW. More heat helps in cold climates and on long hose runs, but it also raises the electrical draw your generator or shop service has to supply.
